First Annual Houston HOPE Senior Citizens Arts and Crafts/Health Fair

HOUSTON, October 7, 2005 – Houston HOPE, along with several partnering organizations, will host an Arts and Craft/Health Fair for senior citizens at the Kashmere Gardens Multi Service Center from 10:00am until 1:00pm. Collaborators include Sheltering Arms, Neighborhood Centers Inc., DPM Alliance Home Healthcare, Courtesy on Wheels, Teddy's Train, Texas Health Spring, Nixon Adult Daycare, Care Improvement Plus, Molina Healthcare of Texas, the Social Security Administration, and the Houston Fire Department.

One of the purposes of this fair is to inform seniors about the Houston HOPE TimeBank program, which is in the implementation phase in the Clinton Park/ Tri-community; one of the seven Houston HOPE neighborhoods.

This event will provide seniors with the opportunity to showcase their personal arts and craft work (such as ceramics, quilts, and crochet designs), while competing for prizes. Healthcare vendors will be present to distribute information regarding their organizations, and to perform blood sugar and blood pressure screenings.

Speakers will include Council Member Carol Alvarado, Jarvis Johnson and Houston HOPE Executive Director, Dr. Will Reed.

Prizes will be given away in our raffle drawings, refreshments will be served, and transportation provided to seniors who register early.
