Houston Hope TimeBank
One hour of time can inspire a world of hope
|
Houston Hope TimeBank is a participant of the international social movement of Time Banking.
The general concept is that one hour
of service given to another is worth
one time dollar. Time dollars can be spent on services
from another Time Bank member or they may be donated to a loved one. It is an effort
to maximize resources by building on those strengths and skills that currently exist
in our local communities.
One important way that Time Banking reinforces Houston HOPE's mission
of empowering residents is by recruiting community members to be lead organizers
in developing and implementing the program. These individuals form the Kitchen
Cabinet, a core group of committed Time Bank members that provide know-how
and recruit fellow residents into the program.
In the Clinton Park/Tri-Community and Trinity Houston Gardens neighborhoods, Houston
HOPE has developed Human Services Plans based on assets, needs, and issues identified
by community stakeholders, including residents and service providers.
Houston Hope TimeBank, through the mutual exchange of everyday services and resident-led projects,
will address a number of goals identified by the community such as enhancing access
to youth and adult education, providing quality health care and reducing crime.
Time Banking is gaining momentum in the Clinton Park and Trinity Houston Gardens
communities and it will be considered as a potential program in the other five neighborhoods
served by Houston Hope.
